Prayer foryour Thanksgiving Meal.jpg

Invite a child (or children) to read Psalm 100:

The Lord is God. He made us, and we belong to him.

We are his people. We are the sheep of his flock.

Give thanks as you enter the gates of his temple.

Give praise as you enter its courtyards.

Give thanks to him and praise his name.

Then an adult may pray:

Let us pray.

Lord God, creator of all . . .

For the food we are about to share and for those who have worked to harvest, provide, prepare and serve it, we give you thanks.

For the lives and memories of our friends and family members who have passed away and are not with us at the table today, we give you thanks.

For moments of happiness and joy that brighten our days, we give you thanks.

For every good night’s sleep and every good day filled with work or school or retirement activities, we give you thanks.

For our bodies and minds, and for opportunities to learn and grow, we give you thanks.

For giving us life and breath and all that we need from day to day, we give you thanks.

For your Son Jesus Christ, who lived and died and now lives again so that we can have everlasting life, we give you thanks.

Lord God, we lift up our praise and gratitude to you on this Thanksgiving Day.  Amen.
