The period leading up to me leaving a former congregation was very emotional. I was there first as a musician and then as the worship leader for about eight years. During that time faced trials like being diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and having my father pass away. Through it all these congregational members were kind and compassionate and prayerful; they were Christ to me at every turn. So when it became clear that my path and the church's were diverging, it was both devastating and exhilarating. Changes like this one usually are. I became excited to see what God had in mind, and by my last day there, I had already dealt with most of the sadness and goodbyes, and so in the hour or so I had between coming home from church and leaving for a family reunion, I picked up my ukelele and wrote "Because We Love You". I think my excitement and joy at what the future was bringing comes through in this song.
