A prayer for your 2018 Easter meal

Invite a young person to read the resurrection story from Mark 16:2-6. If one is not present, it may be read by an adult.

“Very early on Sunday morning, just at sunrise, the women went to the tomb. On the way they were asking each other, ‘Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?’ But as they arrived, they looked up and saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled aside. When they entered the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a white robe sitting on the right side. The women were shocked, but the angel said, ‘Don’t be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead!’”

An adult may then pray:

Let us pray.

Lord God, you are the source of all that we need in this life – like food, clothing, home, family, work, friends, joy and peace. We thank you for your many gifts in this life.

Because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, you have also blessed us with the gift of everlasting life. We thank you for this eternal gift.

We are grateful for those who are gathered around the table for this Easter meal with us. We also remember those we love who are not with us today, and those who now rest from their labors.

Please bless this food. May it remind us of the joyous heavenly banquet we will one day share with you and those we love. Amen.

Alleluia, Christ is risen!

All may then say: He is risen indeed. Alleluia
